DWWN Requirement on the SL8500

Fibre drives installed in the SL8500 will be assigned a WWN based on the drive bay position.

All Fibre drives housed in the SL8500 require DWWN support; there is no option to disable this feature. As a result drives migrated from other libraries will get assigned a different WWN upon installation in the SL8500. If the customer binds to the WWN this could impact customer operations if this not taken into consideration.

Example:

STK 9840B Fibre drives converted from a 9310 or L700 library to an SL8500 has this exposure. After the drive is installed in the SL8500 the DWWN will be changed to the appropriate value assigned to its bay position. The SAN environment may not associate this new WWN to the original drive. To resolve this issue the switch may need to be reconfigured or a server may need to be rebooted. The resolution is configuration dependant and needs to be addressed during the conversion.

During manufacturing we burn-in a single DWWN per SL8500 Library and based upon that original WWN 225 (decimal) additional WWN are assigned to that library by the embedded code of the SL8500.

With an example seed value of 500104F00078CB0E the library code reserves the first 16 (10Hex) values for the Library Fibre interfaces, a possible 8 ports with a possible 8 nodes depending on the configuration. Then drive tray assignments are allocated starting at drive bay 1.

The HBT card (drive interface) is then given the drive WWN base value of 500104F00078CB1E.

Then drive WWN?s are assigned by the drive Bay Number, starting with drive bay 1 and ending with drive bay 64.
