Solution

1. In your browser window, type:

   https://IP_address_of_ILOM_SP

   (i.e. https://10.6.163.9)

2. On the Java Web Console login page, enter your user name and password.

3. Click the "Log In" button. The ILOM Web GUI page is displayed.

4. Each ILOM web GUI page has three main sections: the masthead, the

   navigation tabs, and the content area.

5. Let's examine the buttons in the masthead. These buttons and fields

   are always displayed on every page in the Web GUI.

   About - Click to find what version of firmware is currently running

           on the service processor. There is also some copyright information.

   Refresh - Click to refresh the information in the in the content or

             data area of the page.

   Log Out - Click to end the current session of the ILOM web GUI.

   User field - Displays the user name of the current user of the ILOM

                web GUI.

   Server field - Displays the name of the server on which the ILOM

                  service processor is installed.

6. Below the masthead are the navigation tabs that you can click to open a

   specific web GUI page. When you click a main tab, subcategories of tabs

   are displayed, providing you with further options to choose. The same set

   of tabs are available in all web GUI pages.

7. The content area of the web GUI page is where you find information about

   the specific topic or operation you chose using the tabs. The content area

   displays, for instance, logs, status indicators, task wizards, and command

   buttons to execute an operation.

8. Let's examine the navigation tabs. When we first log in, we are placed in

   the "System Information" tab, the "Versions" sub-tab.

9. If we click the "Session Time-out" tab, we are able to select an inactivity

   timeout for this session. If your session is inactive for the selected time,

   you are logged out automatically.

10. Click the "Components" tab. You can select a device and view component

    information such as part numbers, serial numbers and manufacturing

    information.

11. The last subtab under "System Information" is the "Identification

    Information" tab. This allows us to see the set the SP hostname and

    System Indentifier.

12. When you select "System Monitoring", the sub-tabs below change. We now

    have sub-tabs labeled "Sensor Readings", "Indicators", and "Event Logs".

13. Under "Sensor Readings", we can see all the sensors, what type they are

    and the current reading. You can click on any sensor to get additional

    property information about that sensor. For example, let's take a look at

    the 3.3V standby sensor.

14. When you select the "Indicators" tab, You can view the status of LED indicators

    on the system. You can also manage the Locator indicators.

15. If you click on "Event Logs", you can view every event in the SP, including IPMI,

    Audit, and FMA FMA events.

    You'll notice that there are 6 fields of information about each event.

    You can click the Clear Log button to delete all current log entries.

16. When You click on the "Configuration" tab, You now have sub-tabs of "System

    Management Access", "Alert Management", "Network", "Serial Port",

    "Clock Settings", "Syslog", and "SMTP Client".

  - We'll start with the "System Management Access" sub-tab

    You will notice that the  "System Management Access"

    sub-tab, also has sub-tabs.

    Under "Web Server", we are able to manage the Web Server settings.

    Under "SNMP", we are able to view and modify SNMP settings.

    On the "SSL Certificate" sub-tab, you can you can use the default SSL

    certificate and private key or you can upload a new certificate and private

    key.

    Under "SSH Server" you can configure secure shell server access and key

    generation.

  - "Alert Management" sub-tab

    Allows you to configure alerts. Alerts will be covered later in the course,

    when we cover troubleshooting.

  - "Network" subtab

    Allows you to configure the service processor's IP address using DHCP, or

    manually assign an IP address.

  - "Serial Port" subtab

    Allows you to modify serial port settings which are all explained in the

    content section of the page.

  - "Clock Settings" sub-tab

    Allows you to set the Sevice Processor clock and also syncronize the Service

    Processor with an Network Time Protocol (NTP) server.

  - "Syslog" subtab

    You can configure the service processor to send the Syslog to one or two

    IP addresses from this page.

  - "SMTP Client" subtab

    From this subtab, you can configure the SMTP client.

17. The next tab is the "User Management" tab. When I click on it, The sub-tabs

    change to "User Accounts", "Active Sessions", and LDAP Settings.

  - "User Accounts" sub-tab

    Assuming that I have the necessary privileges, I can add, edit or delete

    users. As it says right below the tabs, You cannot change the root

    accounts.

  - "Active Sessions" sub-tab

    Allows you to view the users currently logged in to the service processor.

  - "LDAP Settings" sub-tab

    This page allows to to enable and configure LDAP authentication for your

    service processor.

  - "RADIUS"

    This page allows to to enable and configure RADIUS authentication for your

    service processor.

  - "Active Directory" subtab

    This page allows you to configure Active Directory settings.

    Active Directory is an implementation of LDAP directory services by

    Microsoft for use primarily in Windows environments. Its main purpose is

    to provide central authentication and authorization services for Windows

    based computers.

18. The "Remote Control" tab has the following subtabs: "Redirection", "Remote

    Power Control", "Mouse Mode Settings", and "Diagnostics".

  - The "Redirection" tab allows you to launch the Remote Console application.

    This application allows you to manage the host server remotely by redirecting

    the system console to your local machine.

  - From the "Remote Power Control" tab, you can control the power to the server.

    The actions are "Reset", Immediate Power Off", Graceful Shutdown and Power Off",

    "Power On", and "Power Off". These are all explained in the content area.

  - The "Mouse Mode Settings" tab allows you to select a mode for your local mouse

    to use. These modes are explained in the content area.

  - The "Diagnostics" tab allows you to send an NMI (non-maskable interrupt) to

    the Host OS by clicking "Generate NMI" button.

    A non-maskable interrupt (NMI) is a computer processor interrupt that can not

    be ignored by standard interrupt masking techniques in the system.

19. The "Maintenance" tab has three sub-tabs..."Firmware Upgrade" and "Reset SP",

    and "Configuration Managment".

  - "Firmware Upgrade" sub-tab

    Allows you to enter Upgrade mode which will allow you to upgrade the firmware.

  - "Reset SP" sub-tab

    Allows you to reset the SP.

  - The "Configuration Management" apge allows you to restore the SP configuration

    to factory settings.

20. At this point we'll conclude the demonstration by clicking the "Log Out" button.
