Description

It is possible to misconfigure Sun[TM] StorEdge Data Replicator set roles within a Sun StorageTek 6920 system such that the same Sun StorEdge Data Replicator set is configured with the same role on both systems.

This InfoDoc explains how to correct this mistake without loss of data or availability.

Steps to Follow

When a Sun StorEdge Data Replicator set is configured in a Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920 environment, the same set must be independently configured on both of the Sun StorageTek 6920 systems. The duplication of this configuration step means that it is possible to mistakenly configure the set on both systems with the same role ("primary" or "secondary"), instead of configuring the set on one system as "primary" and on the other system as "secondary". If such a misconfiguration is performed, the set will be unable to synchronize or replicate data.

In order to correct this misconfiguration the following methods can be used.

If the set has been configured as the "primary" role on both systems, follow this procedure:

1.1 Identify which system should have been configured as the "secondary" role.

1.2 For the set that should be the "secondary", modify the set parameters and change the role from "primary" to secondary".

1.3 Synchronize the set.

If the set has been configured as the "secondary" role on both systems, follow this procedure:

2.1 Identify which system should have been configured as the "primary" role.

2.2 Delete the Sun StorEdge Data Replicator set from the system that should be the "primary". This will not affect the data contained on the volume, nor will it affect the availability of the volume.

2.3 Recreate the Sun StorEdge[TM] Data Replicator set on the same volume being sure to select the role as "primary".

2.4 Synchronize the set.
