Description
This document provides informaion on the Sun StorEdge[TM] A1000 Hardware RAID array as seen by the system at the PROM level.

Steps to Follow
Execute the following after the SCSI controller is installed and the A1000 box is powered on:
ok setenv auto-boot  false

ok reset-all

Note: When the machine returns from the reset-all command, it will stop at the "ok" prompt.

ok probe-scsi-all ( The following output is from an Sun Enterprise[TM] 4000)

/sbus@b,0/QLGC,isp@0,10000

Target 4

Unit 0 Disk Symbios StorEDGE A1000 02053Q38Q'

Unit 1 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205 X%p3\w

Unit 2 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205 0zo3\w

Unit 3 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205 Oo3\w

Unit 4 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205 Qp3\w

Unit 5 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205 X%p3\w

Unit 6 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205 0zo3\w

Unit 7 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205 Oo3\w

Note : "Unit 0 Disk Symbios StorEdge A1000" indicates a LUN (logical unit number).

By default the box is shipped with 1 LUN. The other unit numbers indicate possible LUNs.

During boot of the system you see the following message which is normal:

-> WARNING: /sbus@b,0/QLGC,isp@0,10000/sd@4,0 (sd4):

-> corrupt label - wrong magic number

The above warning is normal because we have not yet created and labeled the LUN's yet.

Once the Raid Manager software packages and patches are installed, you can then create/label the LUNs and you should not see the "Warning" message.

The following output shows an A1000 with 3 LUNs constructed....

ok probe-scsi-all

/sbus@b,0/QLGC,isp@0,10000

Target 4

Unit 0 Disk Symbios StorEDGE A1000 02053Q38Q' <- Default LUN (LUN 0)

Unit 1 Disk Symbios StorEDGE A1000 02053Q48U <- Newly created LUN (LUN 1)

Unit 2 Disk Symbios StorEDGE A1000 02053Q58]c <- Newly created LUN (LUN 2)

Unit 3 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205

Unit 4 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205

Unit 5 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205

Unit 6 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205

Unit 7 Device type 20 Symbios StorEDGE A1000 0205

Notice how the "Unit description" changes when new LUNs are created.
