Goal

There will be times when it will be necessary to know about the properties of a Sun Ray[TM] DTU. Primarily, when it comes to troubleshooting or upgrading the DTU.

Solution

Description
This document lists methods to identify the properties of a Sun Ray[TM] appliance.

Steps to Follow
Using the UTQUERY command:

UTQUERY is available with SRSS 4.0 and higher. The UTQUERY command will report the current DHCP parameter values on appliances which are operating with Sun Ray[TM] firmware revision 4.0 or newer, and have successfully acquired DHCP parameters from a DHCP server. utquery requires that the Sun Ray appliance is up, and can be reached by the Sun Ray server.

/opt/SUNWut/sbin/utquery -d DTU IP

Example:

# /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utquery -d 192.168.128.0
terminalID=0080020e7a87e    <--- Mac Address
terminalIPA=192.168.128.239 <--- DHCP Address currently used
model=CoronaP8              <--- Model. P8 represents Series 2 DTUs.
Subnet=255.255.255.0
Router=192.168.128.3
MTU=1500
Broadcst=192.168.128.255    <--- Broadcast
LeaseTim=86400 <--- (default) DHCP lease time in seconds
DHCPServer=192.168.128.3 <--- DTU got DHCP address from here
InformServer=192.168.128.1 <--- DTU got DHCP vendor tags there
AuthSrvr=192.168.128.3 <--- as provided by DHCP
AuthPort=7009 <--- authentication manager port number
LogHost=10.16.50.172 <--- DTU log messages on this server
FwSrvr=192.168.128.3 <--- DTU looks for new firmware here
NewTVer=4.2_140993-05_2010.08.25.23.16 <--- as provided by DHCP
parmsVersion=4.2_140993-05_2010.08.25.23.16
parmsBarrier=420 <--- values from *.parms file
currentAuth=4.2_140993-05_2010.08.25.23.16 <--- current Sun Ray Server
currentFW=3.1_32,REV=2005.08.24.08.55 <--- current firmware
currentBarrier=310
currentBarrierLevel=420 <--- appliance will reject firmware with lower barrier level
AltAuth=192.168.128.3,255.255.255.255 <--- overrules AuthSrvr

Using the utdesktop and makedbm commands:

UTDESKTOP is available in the SRSS 4.0 and higher.

Note: makedbm and utdesktop are not available in unconfigured mode.

# /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utdesktop -p

Refer to InfoDoc 26428 Sun Ray[TM]: How to find the MAC address of the Sun Ray[TM] appliance to which currently logged in for methods how to identify the MAC address of a Sun Ray appliance.

Desktop ID, Model, Firmware Revision, and Current Status for all appliances also are easily available from the local ndbm datastore, using

On Solaris: % /usr/sbin/makedbm -u /var/opt/SUNWut/ndbm/dstatus
On Linux: % /usr/lib/yp/makedbm -u /var/opt/SUNWut/ndbm/dstatus

whereas the Location and the Current User for all appliances can be listed using

% /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utdesktop -l -c

Example:

The example shows a SunRayP8, MAC address 080020e7a87e, running firmware revision  4.2_140993-05_2010.08.25.23.16
 .

% /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utdesktop -p 080020e7a87e
Current Properties:
Desktop ID            = 080020e7a87e
Model                 = SunRayP8
Firmware Revision     = 4.2_140993-05_2010.08.25.23.16
Multihead Group       =
Location              =
Token Reader          = no
Other Info            =
Current Status        = Up
Last Status Update at = 11/03/2010 10:57:12
First Connection      = 11/03/2010 10:57:12
Current User          = pseudo.080020e7a87e
% /usr/lib/yp/makedbm -u /var/opt/SUNWut/ndbm/dstatus | /bin/grep 080020e7a87e
080020e7a87e 080020e7a87eSunRayP33.1_32,REV=2005.08.24.08.55,Boot:1.4; 2000.05.11-16:42:52-PDTUp11310118321131011832

Using the UTWHO command:

UTWHO is available in the SRSS 4.0 and higher.

The UTWHO command will provide the display number, Desktop ID, the current user, the IP address, and the Model for all attached Sun Ray appliances.

Example:

% /opt/SUNWut/bin/utwho -Hac
  DISP Token User IP Address Model.CID
2.0 pseudo.0003ba5b56f1   foo      192.168.128.209 P9.0003ba5b56f1
3.0 pseudo.080020c2f24a   bar      192.168.128.208 P8.080020c2f24a

Abbreviations:

CID: Canonical Identifier

SRSS: Sun Ray[TM] Server Software

MTU: Maximum Transmission Unit
