Description
Autohome Shares is a feature that creates CIFS shares to user home directories automatically when the user connects and removes them when the user disconnects. This eliminates the administrative task of creating and maintaining shares for every user, improves the user experience by presenting only the applicable home directory share and conserves system resources by maintaining only the home directory shares that are in use..

This document provides instruction for the configuration and use of this feature.

Steps to Follow
Autohome configuration requires an existing home directory structure. In its simplest form, this would consist of storing all user home directories in the same location, such as /user/home. More complex directory structures can also be handled with per-user maps or passwd files. The name of the Autohome share matches the username.

To configure Autohome Shares, connect to the Web Admin interface, enter the password and navigate to Windows Configuration / Configure Autohome, select the checkbox to enable Autohome and the Configure Autohome screen will come up.

NOTE: It may be necessary to upgrade to OS version 4.21 or newer to make use of the wildcards and advanced mapping rules described below.

On the Web Admin Autohome configuration screen there are two secions. The top section is to create a default mapping rule. The default rule is used

In this section there are three radio buttons as follows:

Use Wildcard: This option allows you to define new autohome share paths using the two wildcard characters "&" and "?". When the system parses the path, "&" is replaced with the user name and "?" is replaced with the first character of the user name. This is intended for simpler home directory structures where the user home directories share a common root, and may also be sorted by the initial letter of the username as in the following example:

      Example: Mapping rule "/users/home/?/&"

        user "bob" logs in, home directory is "/users/home/b/bob"
user "jane" logs in, home directory is "/users/home/j/jane"

Use Name Services: This option searches the configured passwd lookup service, either local file, NIS or NIS+, to determine the user home directory location. If the user is not found in the passwd file, no share is created. Using a local passwd file does not require any NIS servers or NFS clients. See the Administrator's Guide under "Credential Mapping" and "Name Services" for more information on this option. The ADS Container field optionally allows the share to be published to an Active Directory container if configured.

No Default Rule: All home directories to user maps will be individually created in the Autohome configuration screen. The ADS Container field optionally allows the share to be published to an Active Directory container if configured.

The lower portion of the screen is used to create individual user maps. If a map is created for a specific user, the default map setting is ignored for that user. Clicking on the Add button prompts for user name, home directory location and ADS Container, as explained above. Buttons are also available for Edit and Delete.
