Goal

This document will assist the user to identify if the HBA controller is on-board (integrated on the motherboard) or installed as a PCI card, as well as it's status.

Solution

Verifying the HBA controller path and status on Sun SPARC systems

To troubleshoot a specific HBA controller, the user needs to identify if the controller is onboard or resides on a plug-in PCI card. To determine if the controller is on-board you need to examine the device path for the specific server platform. The device paths for the different server platforms using an onboard LSI disk controller (LSI1030, LSI1064 and LSI1068) are:

V440:   /pci@1f,700000/scsi@2

V215:   /pci@1e,600000/pci@0/pci@a/pci@0/pci@8/scsi@1

V245:   /pci@1e,600000/pci@0/pci@a/pci@0/pci@8/scsi@1

V445:   /pci@1f,700000/pci@0/pci@2/pci@0/pci@8/LSILogic,sas@1

T1000:  /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@8/scsi@2

T2000 using factory installed PCI-X card (370-7696): /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0,2/LSILogic,sas@2 

T2000 with on-board controller:  /pci@780/pci@0/pci@9/scsi@0

T5120/T5220:  /pci@0/pci@0/pci@2/scsi@0

T5140/T5240:  /pci@400/pci@0/pci@8/scsi@0/

T5440:  /pci@400/pci@0/pci@1/scsi@0/


Here are the device paths for server platforms using the Qlogic FC-AL onboard controller:

280R:             /pci@8,600000/SUNW,qlc@4

V480/V490:   /pci@9,600000/SUNW,qlc@2

V880/V890:   /pci@8,600000/SUNW,qlc@2

For more details on supported LSI disk controllers refer to Technical Instruction: <Document: 1007109.1> Support Differences on Internal LSI-RAID controller on SPARC platforms . For the FC-AL controllers the status can be checked with the 'luxadm' command. Here is an example for V880/V890:

In this example, the first line in the 'luxadm' output is for the on-board controller, the remaining lines represent Qlogic HBAs installed in different PCI slots (dual port HBA in slot 5, also HBAs in slot 6 and 7).

Note: When using PCI plug-in card(s) as an HBA controller, always verify that a supported card is installed. Using unsupported or 3rd party HBAs may cause different problems.
