Goal

The C4 tape library has been occasionally misdiagnosed with a broken drive belt pulley.  In fact the pulley is designed with a cut out on it that is mistaken for a defect.

Solution

Steps to Follow
The C4 tape library has a robot mechanism for handling the tape cartridges.   One of the drive pulleys in that mechanism is designed with a notch on it.  Some people have mistakenly thought that was a broken pulley, when in fact it is manufactured that way.  The library is not defective and should not be replaced.  Verify the operation of the library using local diagnostics if in doubt.

Internal Comments
Don't be swapping the robotics out for this notched pulley. This document is also available on the legacy STK support application Primus as ID: STKKB79427.
