Goal

Description
Fiber Channel C4 control boards built before 12/15/06 have the wrong firmware revision in them so the banner that appears on the operator control panel (OCP) displays "Blake Street" instead of C4.  "Blake Street" was the code name for C4.  Functionality is OK but it should be upgraded or replaced when discovered.

Solution

Steps to Follow
C4 System Control Boards part number #380-1508 (FC) built before 12/15/06 will have an incorrect version of the firmware installed. They have pre RR versions of firmware (1.4.2) that show the device as the "Blake Street" device instead of the C4.

To fix this problem and get the latest firmware fixes, upgrade the firmware using by installing the new firmware image via a laptop. Inventory will not be purged due to the low quantity involved. Only FRU inventory has been affected, no libraries are affected (2 different production lines were involved).

How to Identify the Down Rev Boards:

1.On the shipping box, the FRU part number will also have a date associated with it. If the date is before 12/15/06, the board will be down rev.
2. Power up the system with the new FRU in it. If you see a banner on the OCP that says Blake Street, then the firware is down rev.

Affected part number:
Sun PN Vendor PN Description
380-1508-01 PC-UF9DC-Su Fru, System Control Board, FC
Only a limited number of SCB FC FRUs were affected. No C4's sold to customers were affected by this error.

Instructions to upgrade the firmware in the field.
To load the correct C4 SCB firmware:

1.Attach an Ethernet cross-over cable to Eth port0, left port on rear of unit.
2.Attached the other end of the Ethernet cross-over cable to the Service Laptop.
3.Set your laptop to static IP 192.168.20.100/ Subnet: 255.255.255.0/ .No need to set a gateway. The XP command path to do this is: Control Panel/Network Connections/Local area connection/Properties/TCP-IP Protocol Properties/static address.
4.Open WEB browser and log in to the web page using default IP address (192.168.20.126). For a T-code the username/password on the Web GUI is test/test.
5.Copy and paste the attached PX500_V1-0.img file to a directory on your laptop. In the remote management Utilities/Maintenance page on the Web GUI load the PX500_V1-0.img firmware.
6.Reboot library, username/password is now admin/admin. The C4 might show error on the OCP or overtemp but ignore it.
7.Load the latest C4 firmware, V14 or V26, and reboot the library. The Web GUI will show Quantum PX502.

To reset the Sun personality:

1.From the Web browser log in to the C4 service page, IP address/service.html ? username/password ? service/ATLfse.
2.Enable telnet by clicking on enable tenet.
3.Open a command prompt and telnet into the C4 using the IP address.
4.The username/password is service/ATLfse.
5.Type "smgr pers 17" (no quotes, the password may echo on the screen)
6.Reboot C4 and the Sun personality will be on the OCP and Web GuI.
7.From the OPC panel set back customer network setting (IP/Subnet/gateway) under Setup/network/IP address,
8.Connect back customer LAN to Eth0.
