Description
The document describes the physical IO device mapping for the Serengeti PCI-X IO Assembly and the LW8 PCI-X IB_SSC Assembly. This will be handy while decoding Solaris[TM]/OBP device-paths to their physical device slot.

where "xx" in column Device Path Address is the AID (XMITS Agent ID). See example below to understand a typical device path in Solaris/OBP :

     To decode the above path, follow the AID layout as per Infodoc 27432
To locate IO board number, divide AID by 2 and subtract 6.
Note that the AID is in HEX.
Hex: (1e/2) - 6 = 9
Alternately -
Hex 0x1e = Decimal 30
thus
(30/2) - 6 = 9

The result tells us that the device resides on I/O boat in slot 9 (IB9). The even numbered AID indicates XMITS0(whereas an odd number AID would indicate XMITS1), "700000" indicates leaf B and PCI device # 1 indicates that this is PCI slot 0 in IB9.

Note :

  • Slot 0 and Slot 1 is fixed at 33MHZ. This is because, the SBBC ASIC (Serengeti BootBus Controller ASIC on board the PCI-X IO Board) shares the same bus/leaf B on IO Controller XMITS0.
  • The Serengeti PCI+ IO Assembly shares a similar physical device-mapping as documented in <Document: 1012185.1>

Note :

The slower devices such as the SBBC (Serengeti BootBus Controller ASIC) and DVD drive is isolated behind a Bridge Chip, so as to not pull the entire bus down to 33Mhz.
