Sun StorEdge[TM] T3 array: Removing, Reconfiguring, and Adding a Logical Unit Number(LUN) under Solaris[TM] Operating System, Without Performing a boot -r


Steps to Follow
Removing, Reconfiguring, and Adding a LUN under Solaris[TM] OS, Without Performing a boot -r
1.  Unmount file systems associated with the LUN's.
2.  If using VxVM, release the T3 array's LUN's from VxVM control
      # vxdisk rm <lun#> 
      or Option #3 from vxdiskadm

3. Run 'cfgadm -al' to check if devices are configured

4. Run 'cfgadm -c unconfigure c#' to unconfigure devices

5. Remove fiber cable from switch, or Host Bus Adaptor(HBA)

6. To load every driver in the system, and attach all possible device
instances, execute the following command on the host:

    # devfsadm 

7. Run "format" to verify that the LUN is no longer seen by Solaris OS

8. telnet or tip into the T3 array

9. Unmount the volume

    # vol unmount <name>

10. Remove the volume

    # vol remove <name>

11. If network variables are changing, run the following

    # set ip <ip address>
# set netmask <netmask>
# set gateway <gateway>

NOTE: if tftp applies, run the following

    # set tftphost <tftphost ip address>
# set tftpfile <tftpfile>
# set hostname <hostname>

12. Change global variables, if needed

    # sys blocksize <16k,32k,...>

NOTE: if mp support applies

    # sys mp_support <rw, mpxio>

13. Reset the T3 array

    # reset -y

14. Log into the T3 array

15. Recreate new LUN

    # vol add <name> data <drives> raid <0 | 1 | 5> [standby <drive>]
    # vol init <name> <data | sysarea | fast> [rate <1-16>]
    # vol mount <name>
    # vol stat [<name>]
    # vol mode [<name>]

16. Connect the fiber cable to the hosts or switch

17. On the host, run devfsadm

18. Verify whether devices are configured or not configured

    # cfgadm -al

19. Configure Fibre Channel device

    # cfgadm -c configure c#

20. Run format to verify the existance of the LUN

21. Add LUN to VxVM control

    # vxdiskset6up -i <lun#>
    # vxdg -g <diskgroup> adddisk <lun#>
    or
    Use Option #1 from vxdiskadm

22. Configure VxVM volumes

NOTE: This is to make volume from top-down

    # vxassist -g <diskgroup> make volume1 100m disk01 
    or
    Refer to Administrator's Guide for more command line proceedure

23. Create and mount filesystem

    # mkdir /mymount
# mount /etc/<whatever> /mymount

24. Verify /etc/vfstab entries

25. Restore data
