PreviouslyPublishedAs 204822 Description The raidctl(1M) man page is referenced in several Sun Fire[TM] V440 server documents related to creating and administrating hardware RAID 1 mirror volumes, available as a built-in feature on Sun Fire V440 servers. This man page is not loaded by default on Sun Fire V440 servers installed with Solaris[TM] 8 HW 7/03. This document explains how to find and install these man pages. Steps to Follow The raidctl(1M) man page provides the standard format manual page for the "/usr/sbin/raidctl" command included with Solaris 8 HW 7/03. This command is used to create, administer, and delete hardware RAID volumes for supported controllers. A supported hardware controller is built-in to the Sun Fire V440 server, and the command can be used to create, view status and delete RAID 1 mirrored disk volume between any two of the Sun Fire V440 server's four internal disks. On Solaris 8 HW 7/03, the raidctl(1M) man page is not installed by default. The man page is located on the CD titled "Solaris 8 HW 7/03 Software Supplement SPARC platform edition" for Sun Fire[TM] and Sun Blade[TM] platforms including the Sun Fire V440 server, as detailed in the "Sun Fire V440 Server Product Notes" document. To install on Solaris 8 HW 7/03: 1. Insert the "Solaris 8 HW 7/03 Software Supplement" CD into the local DVDROM drive. 2. If volmgt is running, the CD will automount at "/cdrom/cdrom0". If volmgt is not running, run the mount command to mount the CD in a local directory. 3. Change directory to the "Man_Page_Supplement" directory of the CD, for example "cd /cdrom/cdrom0/Man_Page_Supplement" 4. Run the "installer" program located in this directory. You may need to redirect the display to a graphics workstation terminal. Select "typical" or "custom" as required for your needs. 5. The "installer" program installs the "SUNWs8hwman1" package containing the raidctl(1M) man page (and other additional man pages) into a standard man page directory structure in the "/opt/SUNWs8hwman1/man" directory. To display, either "cd /opt/SUNWs8hwman1/man" and run the command: "man -M . raidctl" or add the "/opt/SUNWs8hwman1/man" directory to the shell MANPATH variable (and login scrips) for the shell type that your root or system administrator account is normally running under. For Solaris[TM] 9 HW 12/03 or later, and all releases of Solaris[TM[ 10 these steps are not required. The raidctl(1M) man page is included as part of the "SUNWman" package that contains all the standard Solaris man pages. Solaris 9 HW 12/03 is the minimum supported version of Solaris 9 for Sun Fire V440server, and the first Solaris 9 version to include the "/usr/sbin/raidctl" command. All versions of Solaris 10 include the raidctl(1M) command as well.
