Goal

SL8500 Modular Library System, SL8500 Reserve Status in PTP Configurations.

SL8500 multi-library configurations connected together in one ACS via PTP's use a series of "Reserve and Release" commands to reserve and release necessary resources for inter-library moves. During maintenance activity if the library controller or other library components are rebooted a pending reserve may not get released.

Solution

Steps to Follow
SL8500 Reserve Status in PTP Configurations
------------------------------------------

SL8500 multi-library configurations connected together in one ACS via PTP's use a series of "Reserve and Release" commands to reserve and release necessary resources for inter-library moves. During maintenance activity if the library controller or other library components are rebooted a pending reserve may not get released.

Code change in 3.72 greatly reduces this exposure by reserving resources in smaller increments and it does not reserve the source and destination resources at the initiation of the move request.

In a multi-library complex if the front door must be opened without the use of the SSD or the HBC is reset:

-Vary the associated LSMs offline from HSC or ACSLS.
-Vary the library offline via SLC select; system detail-Library x,0,0,0,0-Transition Request-Take Offline.

Note: Do not use Take Immediately Offline, this option will be removed in next release after 3.72 scheduled for 9/2007. Before the library goes offline it will complete all pending request and therefore not leave any pending reserves.

Highly encourage all multiple library configurations to upgrade to a minimum level of 3.72 to decrease the necessity of rebooting all libraries in a multiple library complex if one library in the complex is rebooted.
