Goal

Description


Follow the correct procedure to replace a failed/expired battery on a Sun StorEdge[TM] 3310 SCSI Array, 3320 SCSI Array, 3510 FC Array, or 3511 SATA Array.

Refer to the "Battery Fru" chapter in the FRU Replacement Guide for details.

Solution


Steps to Follow



1. Verify battery LED before proceeding with replacement.. The battery LED, located on the far right side of the
controller module,  is amber if the battery is bad or missing, blinking green if the battery is charging, and  solid green
when the battery is fully charged (as in the table below):



GREEN

BLINKING GREEN

AMBER

battery is fully charged

battery charging

battery bad or missing

2. Verify the battery status in the firmware interface as described in the "Battery Status on Initial Firmware Screen"
section in the FRU Replacement Guide.

3. In the 3510 FC or 3511 SATA array, check the status using the sccli>show battery-status cli command:

Sccli> show battery-status

Status values include:

  • Good.  

  • Expired  - Replace battery.

  • Warning - indicates that the battery will expire within 21 days; replace the battery

4. To replace the battery in a 33x0 SCSI Array, follow the FRU Replacement procedure for: "Replacing a SCSI Battery".

5. To replace the battery in a 3510 FC or 3511 SATA Array, follow the FRU Replacement procedure for: "Replacing an FC Battery".

6. For the 3510 FC or 3511 SATA array, set the in-service as described in section 4.5 FC Battery Status and In-Service Date.

10.Check the battery status using sccli > show battery-status make sure that you see a good status on the new battery that was installed.
11.Next update the placed in service date to reset the expiration date on the new battery. sccli > show battery-status -u
This is a wrong information as for 3310, you get this error :
sccli> show battery-status
sccli: this operation is only supported on Fibre Channel primary RAID controller devices
