Yellow "Prototype" Sticker on Sun Blade 6000 Power Supply Units (PSUs) Should be Ignored

1. Impact

A yellow "prototype" sticker on Power Supply Units (PSU) for the Sun Blade 6000 (A90) systems with a release date of 06/07 up to 11/07 was mistakenly left on the PSUs during manufacturing, and may prompt unnecessary hardware replacement of the PSU. This label should have been removed during manufacturing for Revenue Release and should be ignored, as the PSUs have been fully tested and meet all compliance with safety and other standards for this product.

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur on the following platform:
  • Sun Blade 6000 Modular System A90 with Power Supplies 300-1802-XX manufactured before 11/07
All PSUs since the Sun Blade 6000 Revenue Released on 06/07 up to 11/07 have this yellow label present. The power supply (PSU) vendor should have removed the labels when they cut over to Revenue Release (RR) for this product.

3. Symptoms

Power Supplies 300-1802-XX manufactured before 11/07 have the yellow prototype label just to the right of the white part/serial number label,  which states:

"Attention: This unit is prototype equipment to be used for evaluation purposes. Compliance with all function, safety and other standards may not have been verified."

4. Workaround

The yellow prototype sticker should be ignored.

5. Resolution

The described yellow label is no longer present on Sun Blade 6000 systems starting in 11/07 going forward. Customers should ignore this label completely as the PSUs have been fully tested and meet all compliance with safety and other standards for this product.
