Impact

The recent Sun StorageTek 6920 maintenance update addresses numerous availability and performance issues as described below.

Contributing Factors

These issues can occur on the following platforms:

  • Sun StorageTek 6920 without firmware 3.0.1.22 (as delivered in patch 118396-52)
  • Sun StorageTek 6120 Arrays without firmware 3.2.5 (as delivered in patch 116931-21)

To determine if this upgrade has already been successfully installed do the following:

1) generate a new extractor file and examine the output as follows:

Internal Comments

The migration process can be completed without disrupting system operation. The time required to complete the upgrade is dependent on the size of the configuration and the workload from the customer's applications. If physical disk drive updates are required, they will take approximately 1.5 minutes per drive.  Each 2X2 array unit will take approximately 50 minutes.

Each 2X4 array unit will take approximately 70 minutes. A 2up DSP configuration will take 90 minutes. A 4up DSP will take approximately 130 minutes. The service processor upgrade takes approximately 25 minutes.
