Removing a Failed DSP-1000 Power Supply for the 6920 Array May Cause the Redundant Power Supply to Fail

1. Impact

Removing a failed DSP-1000 power supply for the Sun Storage 6920 array may cause a failure of the adjacent (redundant) power supply, resulting in loss of access to the array. DSP-1000 power supplies (for 6920) are NOT hot-swappable.

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur on the following platform:

  • Sun Storage 6920 Array with DSP-1000 Power Supplies

3. Symptoms

Loss of power to the DSP-1000 will cause a loss of access to the 6920 array.

4. Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution section below.

5. Resolution

DSP-1000 power supplies for the 6920 are NOT hot-swappable. If a power supply replacement is necessary, make sure to first completely power down the DSP-1000 power supplies.

  1. Plan accordingly for a maintenance window for down time/replacment
  2. Stop all applications
  3. Power down the DSP-1000 by unplugging both power cables from the rear
  4. Replace the failed power supply
  5. Plug the power cables back in to the DSP-1000
  6. Restart the system
