Symptoms

VTL Mount request to ACSLS terminates after 5 minutes.

The requested tape gets mounted successfully; but after VTL Mount request has terminated.

This problem happens if tape drive auto-cleaning precedes the Mount request and if the cleaning process takes more than 4 minutes.

Example of the error message in VTL event log:
Mar 3 10:46:03 sunvtl04 genunix: [ID 509796 kern.notice] TLEUP[fffffe8aa325e140]: TapeLibraryFailureUpCall: [ACSLS/LS: Waited 5 minutes for a response from ACSLS/LS (172.19.1.240) after trying to mount 102989 on 0.2.1.12. Timing out.]

Changes

Tape drive auto-cleaning is enabled in ACSLS.
Possible problem with the drive or with the cleaning media in the drive

Cause

1. Drive issues that are causing the drive to run the cleaning cycle more than once
2. VTL fails the Mount request if it does not complete in 5 minutes.

Solution

Any of the following solutions can resolve the problem:
1.  Perform manual cleanings periodically outside of VTL export schedules.
2.  Replace the tape drive if it is determined that it has a problem.

The tape that was mounted after the Mount request has terminated will have to be manually
dismounted from the drive so that the tape media and drive can be reused.
