Symptoms

When the Service Safety Door is actuated (either side), and the library access door is opened, the library reports 'Not Ready' to ACSLS.  ACSLS then offlines the associated LSMs.

This problem occurs on a SL8500 with Redundant Electronics firmware version 6.02 and 6.04 connected to an ACSLS server running version 7.3.1,  8.0.1,  or 8.0.2.

Changes

The service safety door (SSD) is actuated during a maintenance activity to fix a robot.  

Cause

The problem is caused by an unexpected asynchronous message sent from a standby HBCR card. The
standby HBCR card  should not be sending an asynchronous message to the host on door opens.
 

Solution

This problem will be fixed in SPS 6.05 and 7.00 codes.   

There are two recommended procedures to workaround and prevent this problem:

     Procedure 1:  Prior to engaging the SSD, disconnect the ethernet cables on the standby card.

     The procedure is as follows:
     a. Unplug the Ethernet connections from the 2B abd 2A ports on the standby HBC card;
     b. Activate the SSD to move it to the side of the library that you want to access;
     c. Open the access door after the SSD has fully engaged;
     d. Perform the maintenance activity;
     e. Close the access door;
     f.  Return the service safety door to its center position;
     g. Wait for at least 6 minutes before plugging the Ethernet cables back into ports 2A and
         2B on the standby HBC. 

     NOTE:  It takes at least 6 minutes for the standby HBC card to timeout the LSM Not Ready
     messages that it is trying to send to the hosts (ACSLS and/or HSC). If  TCP/IP communications
     are started before this timeout period expires, the messages will still be queued, and this will cause
     the ACSLS host to take the LSMs offline.
     

     Procedure 2:  Prior to engaging the SSD,  login to the ACSLS server and follow this steps:
     a. Start a cmd_proc session and determine the standby lmu ports:
         $  cmd_proc -ql
             ACSSA>   query lmu all
     b. Vary the standby ports offline:
             ACSSA>   vary port <standby-port-ID> offfline
     c.  Perform the maintenance activity
     d. Vary the standby ports online:
             ACSSA>   vary port <standby-port-ID> online
