Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The following alarm is reported by Sun Storage[TM] Common Array Manager:

Alarm ID   : <alarm number>
Description: The factory defaults on the IOMs in tray <tray number> do not match.
Severity   : Critical
Element    : <component>
GridCode   : 70.66.9999
Date       : <reporting date>

Note: Depending on the array model, the xx number in xx.66.9999 can be different.

Changes

This is usually triggered by a replacement of an IO Module (IOM).

Cause

The IOM contains a configuration file, called the "Factory Defaults file", which is loaded into the card at the time of manufacturing. This file contain static information like the part number and serial number of the card, and other values such as the temperature threshold levels at which an alarm should be raised. Different revisions of this file exist across the install base of Sun Storage[TM] 6000 arrays. Although an expansion tray would not be delivered with mismatched versions, if an IOM is ever replaced, the replacement card may have a version of the Factory Defaults file which is different from the one on the other IOM in the expansion tray.

To verify this using the user interface:
  1. Log into Sun Storage[TM] Common Array Manager.
  2. Select the array.
  3. Go to the Troubleshooting -> FRUs page.
  4. Click on IOM.
  5. Select an IOM from the expansion tray where the mismatch has been reported.
  6. Make a note of the Factory Default Version.
  7. Go back to IOM and select the other IOM from the same tray.
  8. Confirm that the version on this IOM is different from the one noted above.
To verify this using the command line (CLI):

Solaris: /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/
Linux: /opt/sun/cam/bin/
Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\bin
  1. List the FRU details for IOM A in the tray where the mismatch was reported:

    sscs list -d <arrayname> fru <tray number>.IOM.A

    Example:
    # sscs list -d st6140 fru Tray.04.IOM.A

  2. Make a note of the Factory Default Version.
  3. List the FRU details for IOM B in the same tray:

    sscs list -d <arrayname> fru <tray number>.IOM.B

    Example:

    # sscs list -d st6140 fru Tray.04.IOM.B

  4. Confirm that the Factory Default Version on this IOM is different from the one noted in step 1.

Solution

The procedure for recovering from this error is carried out on the command line but it is documented in Service Advisor:

  1. Log into Sun Storage[TM] Common Array Manager.
  2. Select the array.
  3. Open Service Advisor.
  4. Scroll down into the troubleshooting section and select "Fixing an IOM Card Firmware Mismatch".
  5. Follow these instructions to update one or both Factory Defaults file in the tray where they are mismatched.
  6. Verify that the versions now match and wait 5 min before confirming that the alarm is gone.
