Applies to:

Sun StorageTek VSM System - Version: 4 to 5 - Release: 4.0 to 5.0
IBM z/OS on System z

Symptoms

VTSS machines are installed on the customer site  with machine-initiated maintenance (MIM) feature through two different services - Service Delivery Platform (SDP) and ServiceTek Plus (STP). A machine-detected error or condition that initiates a call-home sequence from the supported machine to the associated support center host. Error event and log data is available to the support representative for analysis.

Oracle discontinued the STP support on October 31, 2010. The customers who were using  STP for the machine initiated maintenance, are instructed to move to SDP. There are still many customer sites that are still using the STP.  Since the STP is disabled on these sites, appropriate FSC will not be displayed when there is a hardware failure or other STP features such as microcode update info. Instead the MIM request will be discarded and FSC7351 will be displayed.

When customer gets a call home with FSC7351, they should open an SR manually (phone or through MOS).  FSC7351 alone should not be used to determine severity. The customer should be asked if their system is being impacted and severity determined by that impact (as is with any issue).  Troubleshooting must be done with retrieving the logs from customer machine and analysis of those log files to determine nature of the error.

Changes

ServiceTek Plus (STP) support has been disabled since October 31st, 2010.
Customer is recommended to install the Service Delivery Platform to get continued support through Machine-initiated Maintenance on the VSM machines

Cause

STP Machine-initiated Maintenance feature support is discontinued/disabled by Oracle.

Solution

Install and configure the Service Delivery Platform (SDP).  Contact local support to get install SR opened.
