Symptoms

If your hardware includes SCSI tape connected to the Sun 7000 unified storage and if you are running the software version 2010.Q1.0.*, you will experience a slow tape read or write performance, and thus the backup and restore may be slower as well.

Use the following steps to check.

BUI  Status/NDMP can tell you the inquiry strings of the library/tape drive, so you know the make/model.

Also, you can check BUI Maintenence/Hardware to find out if you have a FC card or a SCSI card in the chassis.

BUI Analytics provides NDMP Bytes/Sec transferred to/from Tape, can show you the tape performance. If the tape performance is around 2mbps then you are hitting this issue.

Cause

This is due to a software bug.
<SUNBUG: 6932154>

Solution

The above bug has been fixed in 2010.Q1.1.0 software release, a software upgrade to the latest released is required to resolve this issue.
