Symptoms

Load errors and unable to write or read data back.
HP drive could write unencrypted tapes while the customer is unaware.
IBM drives will not configure causing SL Console to mark the drives as unusable.  Customer will loose access to the drives.

Cause

After a drive firmware update in a LTO Gen-4 or Gen-5 drive attached to a Oracle/SUN Key Management System (KMS), a power cycle of the tray is required to ensure the drive and Encryption Adapter are synchronized and the drive is configured by the respective library.

Solution

To power cycle the Tape Drive:
1. Issue a reboot command via SL Console in the SL3000 or SL8500.  A reboot can occur by pulling and re-inserting the drive tray assembly.
2. For SL500,perform the reboot by removing the drive tray assembly for 10 seconds from the library and then re-inserting the assembly back into the library.

- This needs to be done on any level of KMS in service.
- This is only for LTO drives.
- This effects all firmware levels on the Dione or Belesareous card.

No additional fix is coming from IBM.  HP is working on a fix but no ETA at this time.
