Symptoms

Unable to log in from CLI serial port.
Not able to login from IP connection.
Front panel display goes blank after reboot.


Serial port will not accept password, it displays the “Welcome” message again and curious “ssh” message.

ssh: connect to host localhost port 22 : Network

Front display panel displays: 
During Initializing   … (Reboot) …     “Initializing  Please wait”

Cause

Setting IP address from front display can cause SL500 with 1300 code not to allow login from CLI serial port or IP connection and the front display goes “Blank” after reboot. 
Machine may continue to work for customer via SCSI/FC interface.

Engineering fix in code 1373 (released on 2009-07-15)

Relief/Workaround
Engineering may be able to dial into the serial connection and fix issue or you will need to order a rewritten RLM motherboard with all the security information etc… and a new or good RLC (not the existing RLC card) be installed.



Additional Information
If the gateway is blank or invalid when setting the IP address from the front panel, that causes this issue.

Reproduced in the Engineering LAB with 1300 code.

The setting of IP address and subnet mask would work fine if a valid default gateway address was set at the same time. If the default gateway address is left blank, it causes a major internal IP communication problem. ( not sure why… !) The RLC cannot correctly communicate with RLM or front panel.
