Symptoms
If the Controller Summary page in Sun StorageTek[TM] Common Array Manager(CAM) displays 0MB of Cache memory this indicates that you are experiencing Change Request: 6756414 for 2500 Series Arrays, or 6747153 for 6000 Arrays.
  • 2500 Series Arrays with firmware release 07.35.10.10 and Common Array Manager 6.2.0 through 6.4.0
  • 6000 Arrays with 07.15.11.10 firmware and Common Array Manager 6.2.0 through 6.4.0
  • 6000 Arrays with 07.15.11.10 firmware and SANtricity Storage Manager 10.30
  • 0MB value for Cache Memory displays when you select Physical Devices--> Controllers in CAM.
  • sscs list -a array_name controller shows 0MB value for Controller Cache Memory

ArrayFirmwareBUI Showssscs CLI shows
250007.35.04.100MB0MB
251006.70.54.11340MB340MB
600007.15.07.100MB0MB
600006.60.11.10811MB811MB

SAMPLE SSCS OUTPUT:

# /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/sscs list array st6000 |grep "Firmware"
Firmware Version: 07.15.11.12
#
# /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/sscs list -a st6000 controller |egrep "Controller|Cache"
Controller: A
ID: Tray.85.Controller.A
Cache Memory Size: 0MB
Controller: B
ID: Tray.85.Controller.B
Cache Memory Size: 0MB

Resolution
This is a superficial problem and does not indicate a hardware fault or performance problem with your array. The resolution is to upgrade CAM and your array firmware.
These Change Requests have been resolved in
  • 2500 firmware 07.35.44.10 or later
  • 6000 07.50.08.10 or later
  • CAM 6.4.1 or later(the firmware above is bundled as such)
  • SANtricity Storage Manager 10.50 or later for 6000 Arrays(the firmware is on the CD image)
The latest version of CAM and array firmware can be found at:
http://www.sun.com/storage/management_software/resource_management/cam/get_it.jsp

The latest version of SANtricity Storage Manager can be requested at:
https://www2.sun.de/dct/forms/reg_us_1508_643_0.jsp

NOTE: 2500 controllers (for 2540, 2530 or 2510 arrays) can either be populated with
512MB cache DIMM's or 1GB cache DIMM's. During DIMM or Controller replacement,
verify the cache size, either through CAM or by visual inspection of the DIMM
(only 1 GB DIMM's will have a label indicating PN 540-7736) before ordering a
replacement component. The DIMM Sizes are listed under Storage Array->Array Name->FRU
