Symptoms
After executing 'boot' from the OBP (ok) prompt, Solaris[TM] Operating System(OS)
starts to load, the message 'Error with console keyboard' is reported, then the
Universal Serial Bus(USB) keyboard becomes in-operable.

Resolution
Solaris[TM] Operating System: boot messages report 'Error with console keyboard'.

If the SUN machine is a V210, V240 or V250 refer to Sun Alert 57688 for special instructions.

Alternately, this problem has been seen with USB keyboards attached through third party USB keyboard, video, mouse(kvm) switches. Installing consconfig patch 116484-01 should suppress this error message, but the keyboard may still be in-operable.
In the case where the keyboard is still not functioning, check the
/var/adm/messages file, and run 'cfgadm -l' to help identify the problem.

Normal output of the usb keyboard using cfgadm.

# cfgadm -l | grep usb-kbd
usb0/2                   usb-kbd      connected    configured   ok

If the output of the cfgadm command reports the keyboard as 'disconnected' or
'unconfigured', then unplug the keyboard, run 'devfsadm -c usb' to clear any
stale usb devices, then re-connect the keyboard. If the results are the same,
try the commands below.

To reset the device.

 cfgadm -x usb_reset -y <device name>  i.e usb0/2  <-- device name from previous
cfgadm cmd..

To configure/connect the device.

 cfgadm -c configure <device name>     i.e usb0/2

If the keyboard just won't work via the kvm switch, but works when directly
connected to the Sun[TM] workstation, make sure the latest Solaris OS USB
framework patch gets installed, and check if the third party kvm switch has the
latest firmware.

If the SUN machine is a V210, V240 or V250 refer to Sun Alert 57688 for special instructions.

and the customer is adamant about using this particular device. PTS will review

the details then file a bug/escalate to engineering. If a bug is filed and

escalated, please ask customer if USB device can be loaned to SUN to help expedite

a fix.
