Symptoms

{SYMPTOM}
After installation of a DDS4 DAT (Digital Audio Tape) drive into a Sun
Fire[TM] V1280, Netra[TM] 1280 or E2900 server, the "clean" or "fault" LED (Light-Emitting Diode) remains "ON" permanently and the DAT drive cannot be used.

Solution

Resolution

To install a DAT drive into a Sun Fire V1280, Netra 1280 or E2900 server, the
installation engineer must first remove the filler panel that occupies the slot
where the DAT drive is to be installed. The filler panel is made up of a base
plate on which there is a metal frame that fills the hole, which is usually
occupied by the front panel of a DAT drive. The installation engineer must
unscrew the metal frame from the baseplate, discard the metal frame part, retain
the base plate upon which to mount the DAT drive, and use the 4mm screws
supplied in the box to mount the DAT drive on the baseplate.

If the installation engineer uses the leftover screws from the disassembly of
the filler panel, which are too long for the front mounting holes on the
underside of the DAT drive, the "clean" or "fault" LED will come ON and remain
ON. This is because the screws from the disassembled base plate are too long and
make contact with a surface mount component on a PCB (Printed Circuit Board)
inside the DAT drive.

Solution:
Use the pack of 4mm screws that come in the box with the DAT drive.

Relief/Workaround
If the installation engineer retains the filler panel screws, they should only be used in the back holes (underside) of the DAT drive.

Additional Information
At the time of writing this document, the part number of the pack of 4mm screws was not available. The label on the pack of screws reads as follows:

"Screws For Sunfire V1280/Netra 1280 Only"

However, you can safely use these screws when installing a DAT drive in a E2900 also.
