Symptoms

When attempting to discover a large sub-system the discovery fails, reporting error KAIC03500-E, a database problem. Details of the error are reported in the HDvMtrace logs located in /opt/HiCommand/HiCommandServer/logs.

In addition the following memory pool errors will be reported in /var/adm/messages and /opt/interbase/interbase.log

gds__free: pool corrupted
gds__free: attempt to release bad block
gds__alloc: memory pool corrupted

Resolution

Setting the property dbm.divideUpdate=true in the database.properties file prior to performing the array discovery prevents this problem.

Purpose of this property is detailed in the "Hitachi HiCommand? Device Manager Server Installation and Configuration Guide", chapter 8, under database properties. The property disables/enables concurrent updates to the database.

The following steps will allow the discovery to succeed:

   Set dbm.divideUpdate=true in /opt/HiCommand/HiCommandServer/config/database.properties
/opt/HiCommand/hicommand.sh stop
/opt/HiCommand/hicommand.sh start
Peform the array discovery operation using the web client.
   Set dbm.divideUpdate=false in /opt/HiCommand/HiCommandServer/config/database.properties
/opt/HiCommand/hicommand.sh stop
/opt/HiCommand/hicommand.sh start
