Solution

Resolution
If the above failures occur, you most likely have a defective RLM card. To verify the RLM is defective, contact Tape Hardware Support via MOS for assistance on pulling the correct logs. Once verification has been made, arrangements for replacement of defective RLM can be made.
-Need to have serial number of SL500.

-Account address for replacement RLM to be sent.

-Contact name and phone number to whom will receive the part.

Additional Information
To verify the following messages, you must connect to CLI port and turn on capture in the hyperterm session. Use advsrv or OEM login and submit reboot at command prompt.

mount: Mounting /dev/mtdblock4 on /mnt/idcard failed: No such device
cp: unable to open `/mnt/idcard/etc/passwd': No such file or directory

While in advsrv or OEM prompt, capture the following:

time print
print log all
libstate print
lib getcnfig
version print
feature print
network print

Save captured text to file and attach the file to the SR.

The system cannot open the password file or file was not mounted during initialization.  Evident from log captured during reboot:

mount: Mounting /dev/mtdblock4 on /mnt/idcard failed: No such device
cp: unable to open `/mnt/idcard/etc/passwd': No such file or directory
