Subject: RE: L700 Hard ALPA addressing

Engineering has no plans to write code to allow configuring the L700 as ALPA address 000.

Engineering would have to write a field exceptional code for an account that would allow them to do that. This used to be an allowed address, then we started getting a lot of complaints from customers saying that using address 000 make it look like a fabric attach machine so engineering disallowed it.

Solution

Resolution
The library will not accept 000 as hard address for a drive. Address 001 is the minimum value it will accept. If you previously had a drive with a hard ALPA set with an address of 000, you will be forced to change it to a different hard alpa address. This may require involvement from the customer to change the address at the host. For direct fabric attachment (non-arbitrated loop attachment) enter 126 as the loop-id.
Once the above process has been completed (specifically step 3 above) you can add drives to slots where no drive was installed with no issues. You must press reset on the library and let it re-initialize before the library will recognize the new units.

If the Dynamic World Wide Name feature is required to be enabled at the library, it must be enabled through the CLI port. (Cannot be enabled through the panel)
