Symptoms
No communication over the network
Communication problem on network after IP address change
Communication problem after installing new IP address

Resolution
ALLOW TIME FOR THE SWITCH TO COMPLETE ITS ADDRESS TABLE REBUILD PROCESS prior to attempting communication with the device.

Additional Information
The network switch such as the CISCO CATALYST 5000 takes up to 20 minutes to re-
build its address table. During this time no communication can take place
between the host and the device with the newly modified/generated IP address.

The switch rebuilds the address table each time an IP address is modified or a new IP address is created. Although this condition was experienced on a Cisco Calalyst 5000 switch, it may apply to other brand of switches. Check with customer network engineers to determine the number of switches or other network appliances that may be affected.
