Symptoms
Sun Fire[TM] V1280, E2900, Netra 1280 and Netra 1290: When an ssh client hard disconnects, subsequent ssh connections to the system controller fail
It has been observed that in old versions of Sun Fire[TM] Midrange firmware, the SC's ssh server can become unresponsive if an ssh client is unexpectedly disconnected.
Systems known to be imacted by this issue include the V1280, E2900, Netra 1280 and Netra 1290.
For example, if the client side process is killed with a kill -9, subsequent attempts to connect to the Sun Fire E2900's system controller either from that client, or any other client, will fail.
The failure would look as below:
$ ssh e2900-ssc
Connection to e2900-ssc closed by remote host.
Connection to e2900-ssc closed.
$

Resolution
Though never specifically logged as a bug, this issue is NOT present in the current versions of midrange firmware.
Updating to the current 5.20.X firmware will resolve this issue.

As of writing this document, the current version of firmware was 5.20.5, available in patch 114526-09.

Relief/Workaround
Connect to the serial port, and answer 'y' to the question:

The console is already in use.

Host: 11.11.11.11
Connected: Mar 30 14:31
Idle time: 00:01:06

Force logout of other user ? (y/n) y

This will disconnect the current, broken ssh connection, and will allow a new connection.

Additional Information
This issue is known to happen in firmware 5.19.1, however, may be observed in other versions.
