Symptoms

Sun StorEdge[TM] L25/L100: TLD(0) key = 0x2 with VERITAS NetBackup
When starting backup jobs with VERITAS NetBackup with Sun StorEdge[TM] L100 (or Sun StorEdge[TM] L25), the following errors were logged on /var/adm/messages and backup process failed.
Apr 7 11:24:06 testhost tldcd[2640]: [ID 420595 daemon.error] TLD(0) key = 0x2, asc = 0x80, ascq = 0x1, UNKNOWN ERROR, KEY: 0x02, ASC: 0x80, ASCQ: 0x01
Apr 7 11:24:06 testhost tldcd[2640]: [ID 648471 daemon.error] TLD(0) drive read_element_status error
Apr 7 11:24:06 testhost tldcd[2640]: [ID 559680 daemon.notice] TLD(0) closing/unlocking robotic path
Apr 7 11:24:06 testhost tldd[412]: [ID 263257 daemon.notice] DecodeMount(): TLD(0) drive 2, Actual status: Unable to sense robotic device
Apr 7 11:24:06 testhost tldd[412]: [ID 162256 daemon.error] TLD(0) going to DOWN state, status: Unable to sense robotic device

Cause

Sun StorEdge L25/L100 user's guide page 7: LED indicators The operator control panel has two LED indicators: - The green LED lights when the library is fully operational and ready to accept host commands. It flashes while the library is transitioning from a READY state to a NOT READY state. The library will not be READY during power-on self-tests, when magazines are being released, or during access to certain menu items. Page 60: When you access the Menu screen using the GUI, the library becomes NOT READY and will not respond to any SCSI commands issued.

Solution

Resolution
The messages mean:

TLD(0), robotic device, responded with sense key 0x2 ("not ready"). And, Sense "KEY: 0x02, ASC: 0x80, ASCQ: 0x01" means "Not ready, OCP in menu mode".

The above means that front panel is in menu mode. So this robotic device was not ready when it was logged.  In case of Sun StorEdge L25/L100, when accessing the Menu screen using the GUI, the library becomes NOT READY and will not respond to any SCSI commands issued. So once this errors are logged, check front panel of Sun StorEdge L25/L100, and move back to the main screen from the Menu screen after some operations on front panel are done. After that, restart daemons of VERITAS NetBackup.

To stop daemons of VERITAS NetBackup: # /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/bp.kill_all

To start daemons of VERITAS NetBackup: # /etc/rc2.d/S77netbackup start

Note:

This TLD error does not depend on version of VERITAS NetBackup since the sense code is given by Sun StorEdge L25/L100 in this case.
