Symptoms

Using the jukebox resource configuration tool (jbconfig) within Sun StorageTek[TM] Enterprise Backup or Solstice Backup[TM] environments to setup Sun StorEdge[TM] L25 or Sun StorEdge[TM] L100 tape libraries may fail as a result of too many drives being seen.

jbconfig thinks that the library has more than the actual number of physical drives present and will prompt for the details of each drive.

Changes

{CHANGE}

Cause

The problem is a result of empty drive bays not being disabled in the library configuration.

Solution

Resolution
Make sure there are no tapes in use before proceeding as follows:

1. On the L25/L100 library main screen, press Menu.

2. Press Config, to access the Configuration screen.

3. Press the Up or Down buttons until the drive ID for the unused drive bay is highlighted.

4. Press Select.

5. Press the Down button until the 'Disabled' setting is selected.

6. Press Select.

Repeat steps 3 through 6 to disable any other unused drive bays.

7. Press Main to return to main screen.

NOTE: If you do not return to the main screen after changing this setting, your change will not be saved to NVRAM.

8. The library must be rebooted in order to save the new configuration. To reboot, turn the library off and then back on again.
