Symptoms

When looking at snapshot data or the output of showenvironment Fan on the XSCF, the fans are showing high speed:

Cause

The following output is an example of a missing fan entry in showenvironment.

Solution

Perform the following actions for the previously stated issues.
In the case of a missing fan a Field Engineer should reseat the fan module.
A faulted module should be investigated using showlogs error, showlogs monitor, and fmdump -v.
If the fan module is faulty then a Field Engineer should replace the faulty component.

Messages resembling:

xscf#0 Alarm: FAN_B#1:SCF:Unit detected unexpectedly
xscf#0 Alarm: FAN_B#1:SCF:Unit disappeared unexpectedly

are usually due to improper installation or removal of modules.
In this instance the fault should be cleared and the module returned to service.
