Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1011104.1 : Sun Fire[TM] V240: SCSI bus MESSAGE IN phase parity error
PreviouslyPublishedAs 215276 Symptoms Symptom: Under heavy I/O, the Sun Fire[TM] V240 may see the following in /var/adm/messages or on the console: WARNING: /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2 (glm2): SCSI bus MESSAGE IN phase parity error or ASC: 0x29 (<vendor unique code 0x29>), ASCQ: 0x2, FRU: 0x0 or ASC: 0x29 (<vendor unique code 0x29>), ASCQ: 0x3, FRU: 0x0 This usually means that "SCSI bus reset occurred" due to a "SCSI parity error" and an unstable disk drive. Resolution To reduce unnecessary SCSI parity errors, add the following three lines to /kernel/drv/glm.conf: name="glm" parent="/pci@1c,600000" unit-address="2" scsi-options=0x00101ff8; Note: For the unit-address of glm device, check the error message and fill up the unit address accordingly. In the above example the glm unit-address is 2. This setting disables the Ultra320 SCSI mode of the onboard SCSI. This setting is necessary because the onboard SCSI chip is an Ultra160 SCSI chip and not an Ultra320 chip.
