Symptoms
Using the snoop command, it is observed that the 5210/5310 NAS head is making an RPC broadcast to IP address 192.9.10.254 every 5 seconds as shown below:
tsadm0 # snoop -t a -d bge1
Using device /dev/bge1 (promiscuous mode)
3:01:8.44146       tsfsv0 -> 192.9.10.254 PORTMAP C GETPORT prog=100024 (STATMON2) vers=1 proto=UDP
3:01:13.44396       tsfsv0 -> 192.9.10.254 PORTMAP C GETPORT prog=100024 (STATMON2) vers=1 proto=UDP (retransmit)
3:01:18.44644       tsfsv0 -> 192.9.10.254 PORTMAP C GETPORT prog=100024 (STATMON2) vers=1 proto=UDP (retransmit)
3:01:23.44891       tsfsv0 -> 192.9.10.254 PORTMAP C GETPORT prog=100024 (STATMON2) vers=1 proto=UDP (retransmit)
3:01:28.45140       tsfsv0 -> 192.9.10.254 PORTMAP C GETPORT prog=100024 (STATMON2) vers=1 proto=UDP (retransmit)
Furthermore, the IP address 192.9.10.254 is not even a known IP address of the current network.

Resolution
There most likely is a system parameter/variable called 'statmon.bak.FE0A09C0'
that has been set.
The hex string 'FE0A09C0' is 192.9.10.254 (reversed). It seems to be the trouble-maker. When set, the NAS head makes rpc calls to the IP address at 5 second intervals.
Check to see if the variable is set from the CLI console:
> show statmon*
statmon.bak.FE0A09C0=1
If the show command lists the parameter/variable with a value as shown
above, it is set and will need to be unset to stop the broadcasts.
Unset this variable from CLI console, save variables and verify changes:
> unset statmon.bak.FE0A09C0
> savevars
> show statmon*
statmon*: no such variable(s)
Reboot NAS head

Internal Comments
In the several instances that we have seen this issue, the ip address has
always been 192.9.10.254 (statmon.bak.FE0A09C0 has always been set). This
is a unique ip address as it is one of Sun's own ip addresses

Comment: Returning to author for clarification. Will the IP address always be the same, or is it possible that another statmon.bak.* has been set (in other words is statmon.bak.FE0A09C0 magic?) Thanks.
