Symptoms
The Sun StorEdge[TM] 5310 NAS Appliance throws an error when the user tries to copy a file to another file with a longer filename.

> cp abc.txt Operations_Corporate_Program_Management-Quality_7001-7100_\
Program_Management_Singstar_Program_Management_Singstar_schedules_all_\
Singstar_Project_Schedules_and_project_summariesRegion_wise_schedules_and_summaries_\
Operations_Corporate_Program_Management_.txt

cp: cannot create Operations_Corporate_Program_Management-Quality_7001-7100_Program_Management_Singstar_Program_Management_Singstar_schedules_all_Singstar_Project_Schedules_and_project_summariesRegion_wise_schedules_and_summaries_Operations_Corporate_Program_Management_.txt: File name too long

A similar problem is faced while copying a file in a share on a Windows host.

Resolution
This is a case of hitting the limits of the size of the filename on the NAS. On the NAS, there is a limitation of 256 characters for a filename.
This has nothing to do with the limits for filenames imposed by Windows or Solaris[TM] or any other operating system.

A successful copy operation is shown below.

> cp abc.txt Operations_Corporate_Program_Management-Quality_7001-7100_\
Program_Management_Singstar_Program_Management_Singstar_schedules_all_\
Singstar_Project_Schedules_and_project_summariesRegion_wise_schedules_and_summaries_\
Operations_Corporate_Program_Management.txt
