Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1010470.1 : IOGEAR MiniView Universal Serial Bus (USB)/Keyboard Video Mouse(KVM): How to configure on Sun Blade[TM] 100
PreviouslyPublishedAs 214384 Symptoms This document describes how to configure IOGEAR MiniView USB model G-CS104U on a Sun Blade[TM] 100. This KVM allows you to share one USB keyboard, one USB mouse, and one monitor with maximum of four Sun Blade 100's using a computer selectorswitch on the KVM. It eliminates keyboard, mouse and monitor redundency. Resolution Configuring the KVM. Two procedures are described below: Configuring the first Sun Blade Configuring Remaining Sun Blades Configuring the first Sun Blade ---------------------- 1.) Power off ALL Sun Blades and KVM. 2.) Connect the MONITOR to the Console Video Port (upper left 15 pin VGA connector) at the rear of the KVM. 3.) Connect a USB mouse and USB keyboard (SUN Type 6) to any two USB Downstream ports at the rear of the KVM. These are the flat USB ports closest to the power plug. 4.) Attach the external power supply to the KVM. 5.) Connect a video cable from VGA video connector (15F) at the rear of the Sun Blade to video port (15 pin VGA connector) at the rear of the KVM just below CPU 1. Perform this step for each Sun Blade selecting a different CPU port on the KVM. 6.) Connect a USB type A/B cable from the Upstream port associated with CPU 1 to a Downstream USB port on the Sun Blade. This is used for mouse and keyboard. Perform this step for each Sun Blade selecting a different CPU on the KVM. 7.) Power up the KVM. Make sure 'Auto Scan" is off. The LED next to CPU 1 should be lit. 8.) Power up the Sun Blade associated with CPU 1. The 'Selected' LED below CPU 1 should be lit. At this time the Sun Blade should be booting with boot messages appearing on the monitor. Allow the Sun Blade to fully boot. If the monitor displays the OBP prompt (ok), enter 'boot' to bootup the Sun Blade. Configuring Remaining Sun Blades. ------------------------- This procedure requires the remaining Sun Blades to be powered off. 1.) Confirm the first Sun Blade has fully booted and working. 2.) On the KVM use the 'Port Selector' switch to switch to the next Sun Blade to be configured. This is so the Sun Blade can detect the keyboard on boot and not redirect console to ttya. The red 'Selected' LED should be lit under the appropriate CPU. 3.) Boot up the next Sun Blade. Boot messages should be appearing on the monitor. Perform this procedure for each Sun Blade to be configured. Once all Sun Blades are configured use the KVM's "Port Selection" switch to switch console between each Sun Blade. "Note: While Auto Scan is in effect, neither the keyboard nor the mouse will function. You must turn off Auto Scan Mode in order to use the console". -IOGEAR Owners manual. Additional Information Reference www.iogear.com for KVM specs and manuals. This was confirmed to work with OBP 4.2.3. However, it is recommended to install 111179-08 (OBP 4.10.6) or above for latest OBP fixes and enhancements. I think that's how this model of KVM switch worked. If so, you say to "boot the other Sun Blades". But I think it should explicitly say to boot each computer individually while it is selected by the KVM switch. And don't boot the other computer or change the switch selector until the OS is completely loaded. Version: 0 Date: 2003-11-12 User Name: 26914 Action: Approved Comment: Ready for tech review.
