Symptoms
During Solaris[TM] x86 (8,9,10 Releases) Operating System(OS) Installation, the
full capacity of disks is not recognized. The OS can still be installed, but
the reported size of the disk varies between 11GB and 20GB, instead of the
actual size of the disk. This problem especially occurs with 73GB HDD's.

Resolution
An ITU diskette with the sd patch is available to resolve this problem, however
in some cases the ITU is still not enough and the below workaround is required.
The following 73Gb disks are mostly affected by this issue.

Seagate firmware level 0002
Fujitsu firmware level 0104(10K RPM)
Fujitsu firmware level 0102(15K RPM)

Upgrading the disk firmware would be a suitable solution, however disk firmware
patches are not yet available.

Relief/Workaround
For a new installation, follow this procedure:

----------------------------------------------

1. Boot the system from CDROM in Single user mode.

2. In "format" command choose the affected disk and use "fdisk" to delete the
VTOC of the disk.

3. In "fdisk" menu choose option number "3" ( Delete partition ) to delete the
partition. Once all the partitions in the disks are deleted, save the
configuration and exit fdisk menu. ( You may get Warning "no fdisk partition
found", which can be ignored safely ).

4. Then reboot the system and continue the installation.

5. While selecting the disk for OS installation, you can create the new VTOC for
the disk. You can now see that the new disk is recognized by its full capacity.
