The FAILED procedure:

 1. Configuring to use xorg for X-server:

     "6. When xserver choices are displayed, select the default Xorg."

 2. Auto-configuring the FX 1400 graphics card:

    # /usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure
# cp /xorg.conf.new /etc/X11
# cd /etc/X11
# mv xorg.conf.new xorg.conf
# cd /ect/rc2.d
# mv S99dtlogin s99dtlogin

   Then, re-boot the workstation.

Resolution
Download firmware revision 8175 from the nVIDIA site:

   http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

This firmware provides the "nvidia-xconfig" command, to create a valid
"/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file.

Relief/Workaround
So, there is no need to re-configure the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400 graphics card using xorg.
