Symptoms
During the installation of the Solaris[TM] 8 Operating System (Solaris 8 OS),
the following error is reported at the ok prompt on the Sun Fire[TM] 280R
Server and on the Sun Fire[TM] V880 Server, with 900MHz CPUs:

OK > boot cdrom
krtld: load exec: fail to expand cpu/$CPU
krtld: error during initial load/link phase
panic - boot: exitto64 return to client program
Program terminated

Resolution
To avoid the problem on the Sun Fire systems, use these minimum Solaris 8
OS revisions to avoid the problem:

Sun Fire v880 Server:
Solaris 8 10/01 + all patches - 900MHz CPUs and higher
Solaris 8 2/02 - 900MHz CPUs and higher

Sun Fire 280R Server:
Solaris 8 10/01 is the minimum OS for 900 MHz Cu modules.
