Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1009190.1 : Sun Fire[TM] V210/V240: Error message "Unknown or badly programmed LOM device"
PreviouslyPublishedAs 212721 Symptoms Sun Fire[TM] V210/V240 showing: "Unknown or badly programmed LOM device" during Solaris[TM] 8 or 9 boot after upgrading ALOM from version 1.3 to version 1.5. Resolution The V210/V240 contains Advanced Lights Out Management - ALOM for system management. The error occurs because the LOM (Lights Out Management) packages were installed on the system that is meant for Netra[TM] systems. The V210/V240 uses ALOM and not LOM, this causes a conflict and the error message is generated during the boot of Solaris[TM] 8 or 9. The resolution is to remove the following LOM packages: system SUNWlomm LOMlite manual pages system SUNWlomr LOMlite driver (root) system SUNWlomu LOMlite Utilities (usr) This tends to happen if the install was a jumpstart and a install script installs the package. Also if at the end of an install someone install all of the packages from the supplement CD.
