Symptoms
In order to validate if this is your issue, perform the following checks:
  1. Login to the Sun[TM] Management Center (SunMC) console and there is a black splat over the platform system controller.
  2. Ctail the agent.log and the following error will appear:
    "SNMP: Unknown security name".
  3. The ability to ping both the system controller and SunMC server by IP and hostname works fine.
  4. Launch the following command:
    # /opt/SUNWsymon/util/bin/sparc-sol2.8/snmpwalk -h -c P-public
  5. Receive immediate error "Request time out"

Resolution
Perform the following to resolve this issue:
Telnet or SSH to the Main System Controller (SC) platform shell and run the following command:
hostname-sc0:SC> showplatform -v
The Community String fields should be populated:
Public Community String: P-public
Private Community String: P-private
All domains powered on or off should have data in these fields.  If there is no data, then update these fields (use the setupplatform command - see the Command Reference Manual for details.) and reboot the system controller.  Performing this has no affect on the active domains.

Restart the SunMC console. Launch the snmpwalk again and data should start scrolling:
# /opt/SUNWsymon/util/bin/sparc-sun-solaris/snmpwalk -h -c P-public
