PreviouslyPublishedAs 211889 Symptoms Can not change the time zone to daylight savings time on the SC. For example, PDT (Pacific), MDT (Mountain), CDT (Central), EDT (Eastern) or British Summer Time (BST) daylight time zones. Resolution This is a feature of the Java[TM] Virtual Machine (JVM). Although the setdate command does not allow "Daylight" options, such as PDT, MDT, CDT, or EDT, the Daylight/Standard is automatically determined when the timezone (-t option in the setdate command) is entered. For example: sc0:SC> setdate -t EST Wed Jul 07 10:20:06 EDT 2004 <-- note EDT sc0:SC> Note that although "EST" was specified in the setdate command, the results are displayed in "EDT". To disable daylight savings time completely, specify the timezone as an explicit offset from GMT. For example: sc0:SC> setdate -t gmt-5 Wed Jul 07 09:20:42 GMT-05:00 2004 sc0:SC> Platforms operating within the United Kingdom (UK) The timezone within the UK is GMT, and this means daylight saving does not occur. A further problem is that daylight saving within the UK is known as British Summer time (BST). Generic advice on setting timezones Do not use the three letter abbreviation for the timezone. Confusion may arise as above with BST (British Summer time, Bangladesh time) Or as in Sydney, Australia. The SC reports a timezone of EST which could be confused with American Eastern Standard Time. Use the full name for the timezone you are in.
