Symptoms
After a reboot the Sun Fire [TM] X2100 M2 Server may display an error and is found in the BIOS IPMI event log:

" Axial front fan is not present or has stopped "

The error was not there at initial power-up.

When physically checking the fan it shows it is spinning.

Resolution
On the X2100 M2 there are two axial fan connectors but only one fan unit for the PCI slots. One connector is white and the other black. BIOS/SP version 3A15/2.91 does not monitor the fan speed on the white connector but the connector still provides power so that the fan still functions. Before replacing this fan due to the error make sure that the fan is correctly connected to the black connector.

Issue is also documented on TSC website:

Under the heading  ELOM reports axial fan is
failing

In addition:

We have received a conflicting information from field that the
color of the 2 connectors can be inconsistent. Sometimes it is
white, sometime it is the black one that is working. The workaround
for this would be to swap the connector irregardless  of the
connector color. If the white connector is reporting as failed,
switch it to the black connector, if however if the black connector
is reporting as failed, then switch it to the white connector.
