Symptoms
The OBP password for a domain has been lost and needs to be recovered.

Resolution

The Sun Fire[TM] series allows us to recover a lost OBP password from either the domain when Solaris[TM] is booted utilizing the eeprom (See section 1M in the on line manual) command or, if the Solaris[TM] environment is not running and the security mode is set to full, setdefaults command from the domain shell. (See example below).

Setdefaults command at the domain shell level should be used with caution since it alters the settings for that domain and can, if used improperly, cause a situation that needs to be recovered. Any setting that needs to be configured should be carefully noted down and re-entered after using the setdefaults command. The example below shows the usage of the setdefaults command.

sf3800:A> setkeyswitch off
This will abruptly terminate Solaris in domain A.
Do you want to continue? [no] yes
Powering boards off ...
// Comment : We need to bring down the domain before using the command
// since the effect will not be noticed after POST has been performed.
sf3800:A> setdefaults Do you want to restore the default values now? [no] yes Jun 13 15:42:44 sf3800 Domain-A.SC: Setting defaults for domain A. // Comment : The values for the domain and settings for the OBP // has now been cleared and cannot be recovered unless entered manually // again. Any setting that is needed for the domain should now be // configured.
sf3800:A> setkeyswitch on // Comment : Turning on the domain and POST will run and configure the // Domain with the defaults
