Symptoms
In some cases, after the battery replacement Sun StorEdge[TM] T3+ with FW Release 2.01.03 shows misleading information on "refresh" command.

After the battery replacement if you don't wait upto 12 hrs i.e when batteries are charging it gives confusing output in "refresh command".

Here is the details of the problem:

You have replaced the T3 battery and issued "refresh -s" command.

t3four:/:<3>refresh -s
No battery refreshing Task is currently running.
                        PCU1 PCU2
-----------------------------------------------------------------
U1 Low Bat Low Bat
Current Time Sun Mar 19 06:28:56 IST 2006
Last Refresh Sat Mar 18 09:06:12 IST 2006
Next Refresh Sat Apr 15 09:06:12 IST 2006
t3four:/:<4>

It clearly says no refresh jobs are running and you can see that the batteries are not charging. Next you will try to issue "refresh -c" to start battery charging. But it will fail with following error on syslog:

Mar 18 09:45:55 t3four BATD[1]: N: Battery Refreshing cycle starts from this point.
Mar 18 09:45:55 t3four BATD[1]: N: u1pcu1:skips battery refresh because the status of this PCU is : BAT not OK
Mar 18 09:45:55 t3four BATD[1]: N: u1pcu2:skips battery refresh because the status of this PCU is : BAT not OK
Mar 18 09:45:55 t3four BATD[1]: N: Battery Refreshing cycle ends at this point.

After the battery replacement, "fru stat" would be still as fault.

POWER STATUS STATE SOURCE OUTPUT BATTERY TEMP FAN1 FAN2
------ ------- --------- ------ ------ ------- ------ ------ ------
u1pcu1 ready enabled line normal fault normal normal normal
u1pcu2 ready enabled line normal fault normal normal normal

Clearing of warranty date(using .bat -n u<n>pcu<n>) doesn't have any impact on the situation.

Resolution
Wait about 12 hours to charge the battery, though the refresh command shows misleading information at that time.

After you can see battery status is normal on "refresh -s" command, you can expect proper behavior of "refresh -c" command.

Check fru stat for PCUs, it would be also correct once you can see battery status is normal.

Note:
If you encounter this issue and you battery status has been cleared according to the information presented above, you should recommend to customer to update T3+ firmware to at least 2.01.06 (patch 112276-13).
Battery handling of T3+ has been improved greatly in firmware version 3.x.x provided in following patches:

115180-08 version 3.1.6
116930 version 3.2.x
