Symptoms

When installing Solaris[TM] 8, 9 or 10 Operating System(OS), on a Sun Blade[TM]
1500 Silver or Sun Blade[TM] 2500 Silver workstation, not all packages get
installed when an OS "meta-cluster" other than Entire+OEM is chosen.

As a result, output of the prtdiag -v command, is incomplete on Solaris 8 OS,
because picld is not installed:

 # /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v
System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4u Sun Blade 1500 (Silver)
System clock frequency: 167 MHz
Memory size: 1024 Megabytes
 ========================= CPUs =========================
Run   Ecache   CPU    CPU
Brd CPU Module MHz MB Impl. Mask
---  ---  -------  -----  ------  ------  ----
0     0     0      1503     1.0   16       3.3
========================= IO Cards =========================
#

prtdiag -v output is complete on Solaris 9 and 10.

To see what OS meta-cluster was chosen at install-time, look in the file:

  /var/sadm/system/admin/CLUSTER

Comment: following an escalation, i've reformatted this slightly (taking out commas to facilitate cut n paste), plus more importantly expanded the clustertoc clusters (eg SUNWCpicl -> SUNWpiclr SUNWpiclu), which again helps with cut n paste.

Comment: received an escalation regarding clarification of the packages
that are listed, versus package clusters (eg SUNWCpicl).
