Symptoms
In the following hardware/software configuration environment:

1. EMC Symmetrix Serial Storage connected to Sun Server with Solaris[TM] Operating System
2. EMC CLARiiON Serial Storage connected to Sun server with Solaris [TM] Operating System
The system reports frequentlys displays the following error messages upon a system reboot:
  WARNING: /pci@bd,600000/SUNW,qlc@1,1/fp@0,0/ssd@w50060161106023d5,0 (ssd36): offline
WARNING: /pci@bd,600000/SUNW,qlc@1,1/fp@0,0/ssd@w50060161106023d5,0 (ssd36): offline

Using "iostat -E", ssd36 and ssd37 are found to be EMC CLARiiON Cx700 Array's presented special LUN - "LUNZ".

After confirming with EMC Support engineers, the above LUNs which is LUN ID = 0(that is d0) is EMC Symmetrix Serial Storage - DMX serial storage Gatekeeper/VCM Database volumes(VCMDB). It is not for storing customer data, but for store storage used control and communications information.

The above mentioned Special LUN, "LUNZ", comes from EMC CLARiiON Storage, it is for control and communications usage. Solaris Operating System will not use it as a data LUN.

Resolution
Field engineer can work with EMC engineer to make the above special LUNs from EMC array not be presented to Solaris Operating System.

For Sun hosts connected to EMC Symmetrix Serial DMX storage, Sun engineer can inform customer that EMC engineer can request a modification of DMX Storage BIN file. Once EMC engineer agrees to help on this and the BIN file is modified, request a reconfigure reboot of the Solaris host. Then the Gatekeeper/VCM database Volumes (VCMDB) LUN related errors would disappear.

For EMC CLARiiON CX700 Array's presented special LUN, "LUNZ", get help from EMC engineer to Disable "arraycommpath" setting on CX700 array for each Solaris Server which can be done via command "navicli". Once EMC engineer completes the settings, initiate reboot of Solaris Operating System, and then the "LUNZ" LUN would disappear as well.

All above mentioned actions need EMC engineers' involvement. Sun Field engineers are not encouraged to do such configurations on an EMC array.
